OurSQL Episode 57: Eventual Discovery part 2

This week we continue our series on events. We talk about events and logging, event timing, privileges and runtime behavior.

Gazzang is using encryptfs for their encryption. According to their launchpad project page at https://launchpad.net/ecryptfs, "eCryptfs is a POSIX-compliant enterprise-class stacked cryptographic filesystem for Linux".

The main topic is the 2nd part of events:

What events log and where the event logs are
How errors show up in the error log
How events and their actions get logged to the binary logs (aka events and replication), including how the "ignore" and "do" replication limitations work with events. Manual page: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/stored-programs-logging.html

Event timing -- the manual page includes a table of what time values and time zones are used for particular metadata about events - http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/events-metadata.html

Privileges needed for events (manual page is at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/events-privileges.html)

Runtime behavior for events (e.g. sql mode, charset, collation, definer)
Event limitations - manual page is at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/stored-program-restrictions.html

Ear Candy
This week's ear candy notes how the description of the buffer for the InnoDB log files on disk has changed in MySQL 5.5 - http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/innodb-parameters.html#sysvar_innodb_log_buffer_size
