OurSQL Episode 153: Tooling Around, Part 3

This week we continue our series on MySQL Utilities, talking about replication and failover tools. Ear Candy is a gotcha with poor GRANT syntax that MySQL does not give warnings about, and At the Movies is an open forum from the SkySQL Solutions Day a few months ago.

Ear Candy

GRANT CREATE ON testdb.* TO iibench@localhost;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.14 sec)

In MySQL 5.6 and MariaDB 5.5, this works properly:

mysql> SHOW GRANTS FOR iibench@localhost;
Grants for iibench@localhost
GRANT USAGE ON *.* TO 'iibench'@'localhost'
GRANT CREATE ON `testdb`.* TO 'iibench'@'localhost'
2 rows in set (0.01 sec)

However, on some versions of MySQL, it does not work, and you must do:
GRANT CREATE ON *.* TO iibench@localhost;
